Forestry Officer

About the role

The Forestry Officer will provide applied technical support, normative work and programme development for sustainable forest management, landscape restoration and biodiversity conservation across Central Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Lead multidisciplinary teams and contribute to internal committees, project teams and international technical policy bodies.
• Develop technical, analytical, monitoring and reporting frameworks, tools and databases for programme implementation.
• Design and conduct research, data collection and analysis to support technical standards, innovative approaches and policy proposals.
• Provide technical back‑stopping to field projects and country offices, including project formulation, implementation and monitoring of forestry interventions.
• Support capacity development, knowledge sharing and regional workshops on sustainable forest management, restoration and wildlife management.
• Promote international cooperation, advocate best practices and represent FAO at intergovernmental meetings.
• Contribute to resource mobilisation and programme development, identifying innovative financing mechanisms such as GEF and GCF.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in forestry, natural resources management, environmental sciences or related field.
• Minimum seven years of experience in forestry, forest and landscape restoration, and implementation of forestry programmes at national or international level.
• Proficiency in English and French (level C).
