Community Conservation Coordinator

About the role

The Community Conservation Coordinator will lead the development, implementation and monitoring of WCS Gabon’s community conservation strategy, ensuring that initiatives are grounded in human‑rights based approaches and aligned with organisational policies.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and adapt the national community conservation strategy to local contexts and support site‑level community plans.
• Supervise technical assistants, project managers and field teams, planning and monitoring field activities.
• Build and maintain trusting relationships with local communities, leaders and authorities, ensuring free, prior and informed consent for all activities.
• Coordinate with the ANPN and other partners to align community actions with national guidelines and other program components.
• Produce regular reports, contribute to funding proposals and support socioeconomic studies.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in social sciences, rural development, conservation or related field.
• At least 7 years of relevant experience, including 3 years in coordination or program management.
• Proven experience working directly with rural and Indigenous communities and facilitating participatory processes.
• Strong understanding of rights‑based approaches, FPIC, social safeguards and grievance mechanisms.
• Experience collaborating with government agencies, NGOs and international donors.

Required skills

• Fluency in French; strong English communication preferred.
• Excellent facilitation, negotiation and conflict‑management abilities.
