Drilling Superintendent

About the role

Assala Energy, an oil and gas exploration and production company operating in Gabon, is seeking a Drilling Superintendent to lead safe and efficient drilling operations in Port‑Gentil. The role serves as the technical authority for well engineering execution, overseeing rig start‑up, operational performance, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Lead all health, safety, security, environmental and well‑control aspects of drilling operations and new rig intake.
• Coordinate rig start‑up, day‑to‑day drilling activities, equipment maintenance and performance monitoring.
• Provide expert technical guidance to Drilling Supervisors on drilling, completions, workovers and abandonment.
• Maintain the well engineering risk register and drive continuous improvement through lessons learned.
• Manage performance reviews, development plans and competency assessments for well‑engineering teams.
• Supervise drilling contractors and act as Contract Holder for drilling services and rigs.

Required profile

• Engineering degree or equivalent in petroleum engineering or a related discipline.
• Extensive experience in oil and gas drilling and well operations, including leadership roles within wells teams.
• Strong knowledge of HSE leadership, major emergency management and well‑control policies.
• Proven ability to manage stakeholder interfaces, regulatory compliance and asset protection.
