About the role
The World Bank is seeking an Urban Specialist to support its work in West and Central Africa, focusing on resilient urban development in Gabon. The role will contribute to research, policy advice, and project implementation that address rapid urbanization, disaster risk, and climate change impacts.
Key responsibilities
- Analyze urbanization trends and their socioeconomic implications for Gabon and the broader region.
- Provide technical input to country programs on urban resilience, disaster risk reduction, and climate adaptation.
- Collaborate with government agencies, civil society, and development partners to design and monitor urban projects.
- Prepare reports, policy briefs, and knowledge products that inform World Bank strategies and client decisions.
- Support capacity‑building activities for local stakeholders on urban planning and risk management.
Required profile
- Advanced university degree in urban planning, geography, development studies, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of professional experience in urban development, disaster risk reduction, or climate‑resilient planning, preferably in Sub‑Saharan Africa.
- Fluency in English (required) and proficiency in French (preferred).
- Demonstrated ability to work in complex, multi‑stakeholder environments.
