Real Sector Statistics Advisor – IMF Africa Regional Technical Assistance Center

About the role

The Statistics Department (STA) of the IMF and the Africa Regional Technical Assistance Center Central (AFC) are seeking a Real Sector Statistics Advisor based in Libreville, Gabon. The advisor will lead capacity‑development support for real‑sector statistics across nine African countries and regional bodies, reporting to the AFC Director and STA technical leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and manage an annual work programme for statistical capacity development in national accounts, price indices and other real‑sector statistics across nine African countries and regional bodies.
• Coordinate capacity‑development activities with IMF departments, international institutions and bilateral agencies, ensuring alignment with IMF standards and STA guidelines.
• Lead country technical‑assistance missions and deliver regional training on national accounts and price statistics, and back‑stop missions by short‑term experts.
• Document and monitor implementation of capacity‑development actions in the IMF CDMAP IT portal and contribute to reports for the AFC Steering Committee.

Required profile

• At least ten years of professional experience in national accounts methodology and compilation.
• Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in economics, statistics or a related field.
• Fluent oral and written communication in both French and English.
• Strong relationship‑management, negotiation and influencing skills for working with national authorities.
• Proven ability to organise and coordinate technical assistance and training with IMF departments, short‑term experts and other partners.
