Country Director - Gabon

About the role

The Country Director leads The Nature Conservancy's strategy, conservation portfolio, partnerships and operations in Gabon. The role reports to the Program Delivery Director and acts as TNC's principal contact for government agencies and other strategic partners. It covers operational oversight including resource mobilisation, partner relations, staff supervision, recruitment, problem resolution and coordination.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development and implementation of Gabon's strategic plan, and report country impact and targets to TNC leadership
• Coordinate first-phase implementation of the Project Finance for Permanence (PfP) initiative and technical support for upcoming Blue Bond conservation milestones
• Work with the government Project Management Unit (PMU) and FPBG on a capacity-building and knowledge-transfer plan
• Strengthen the Gabon forestry portfolio and oversee the CAFI-supported Sustainable Forest Management programme
• Provide implementation oversight of all in-country programs and projects, keeping them on time and on budget, and run quarterly portfolio reviews
• Manage the country budget and oversee in-country budget management, including operational costs and risks
• Contribute to fundraising and reporting to donors, and manage relationships with government, communities, stakeholders and partners
• Manage in-country staff, including hiring, performance management, training and career development, and make hiring decisions

Required profile

• Valid driver's license and compliance with TNC's Auto Safety Program; employment is contingent on completing a Vehicle Use Agreement, which may include a review of the motor vehicle record
• Ability to build relationships with government, multilateral, bilateral, private-sector and non-governmental organisations
