Senior Climate Screening / E&S Safeguards Expert

About the role

NTU International is looking for a Senior Climate Screening and Environmental & Social (E&S) Safeguards Expert to support an EU‑funded technical assistance project for ECOWAS. The role will focus on integrating climate resilience, environmental sustainability and social inclusion into transport infrastructure planning across West Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct climate screening and resilience assessments for regional transport projects and corridors.
• Provide technical advice on E&S safeguards in line with EU and international standards.
• Prepare and review ESIA reports, ESMPs, resettlement frameworks and stakeholder engagement plans.
• Integrate climate adaptation, gender equality, disability inclusion and other social safeguards into project design and implementation.
• Develop safeguard procedures, methodologies and guidance documents.
• Deliver capacity‑building workshops and technical training for ECOWAS institutions and national stakeholders.
• Support monitoring, reporting and quality assurance of safeguard‑related activities.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in environmental sciences, engineering, climate change, sustainability, social development or a related field.
• Minimum 10 years of professional experience in environmental and social safeguards, climate resilience or sustainable infrastructure.
• At least 7 years of experience on infrastructure or transport projects in developing countries, preferably in Sub‑Saharan Africa.
• Experience with international development cooperation and donor‑funded programmes.
