Freelance Operational Risk Expert – Mining

About the role

dss+ is seeking a freelance Operational Risk Expert to join client‑engagement teams in the Mining & Metals sector. You will work on‑site with a mining client for 5 days a week, helping to protect people, assets and the environment through behavioural and cultural change.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse safety and productivity metrics to identify root causes of client challenges.
• Develop, communicate and implement practical solutions in collaboration with the dss+ team.
• Work directly with the client to pinpoint pain points and deliver tailored interventions.
• Coach small groups and individuals to embed sustainable safety and risk‑aware behaviours.
• Deliver the project on a short‑term (2‑6 month) basis, spending the majority of time on‑site.

Required profile

• Extensive operational experience in the Mining & Metals industry.
• Proven coaching experience with a track record of driving real behavioural change.
• Fluent in English and French at a professional level.
• Willingness to travel and work away from home up to 80% of the time.
• Available immediately as a freelancer/contractor for up to 5 days per week.
