Chief Accountant

About the role

A main market LSE-listed company providing drilling and mining services is looking for a dedicated and professional Chief Accountant based in Gabon. The role covers the preparation and review of financial reports, accounts payable and receivable, cash book maintenance, tax filings, month-end reporting and support to Assistant Accountants.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review financial reports, including balance sheets and profit and loss statements.
• Process and settle invoices, reconcile accounts payable and liaise with suppliers on queries.
• Prepare a monthly payment plan, updated weekly, and allocate payments and receipts correctly.
• Update the cash book daily, record transactions, and carry out weekly reconciliations; report the weekly bank balance to head office.
• Prepare and review the petty cash analysis and file tax returns on time.
• Support Assistant Accountants, prepare the month-end balance sheet and profit and loss reports, and process journal entries.
• Prepare weekly inventory expense and accounts receivable reports, and resolve revenue reconciliation discrepancies using the correct exchange rates.
• Handle intercompany entries, asset capitalization forms and fixed asset reconciliations, and assist auditors and the Group Financial Controller.

Required profile

• AACA qualified, or any equivalent qualification.
• At least 5 years of experience in this field at different levels.
• Experience in mergers and acquisitions is an advantage.
• Proven work experience in the African region.
• Fit and able to perform the inherent requirements of the role, willing to travel as required.

Required skills

• Tax experience in West Africa covering direct and indirect corporate taxation and transfer pricing.
• Excellent knowledge of tax accounting, tax compliance and all types of tax returns.
• Advanced knowledge of IFRS and other accounting frameworks where applicable.
• Excellent command of spoken and written English, strong administration and time management skills.
